Adapter Estimation

Adapter possibility estimation

This tool provides a quick check whether an adapter with infinity focus is possible for a particular combination of a lens and camera.

If you want a macro setup (infinity focus is not necessary), virtually any adapter is possible.

Please choose a lens mount and camera mount from dropdowns, and check results.
Visually, if you see a gap between the lens and camera images, there maybe enough space to place the adapter.
If the lens blue shape overlaps the camera gray shape, the adapter is impossible, most probably.
Also, some more explanations are given in the text report.

Take note that the result is estimation only, since even having the same mount, different lenses may have different design and length of the rear part, and different cameras may have different inner clearance, or front elements protruding forward near the mount. Some cameras have recessed mount. Some cameras and lenses have bayonet lock rings. These and other specifics may make an adapter impossible, even if the general estimation is positive.

False negative results are possible as well.

Things to consider

When you think about some adapter, you should consider a few things:

  • flange focal distance of the lens and the camera (this affects whether you will be able to reach infinity focus)
  • image size produced by the lens (a simple adapter wihout any optics can't make the image smaller or larger)
  • sensor size of the camera (this affects crop factor for the particular lens)
  • purpose of the whole idea (making a special adapter may be just not worth efforts and money)
