This adapter allows using microscope objectives with RMS thread (0.8"-36tpi or M20.3x0.7) in setups built with elements having Thorlabs SM2 thread (2.035"-40tpi).

The front side of the adapter has a female SM2 thread, so you can stack more elements there.
