Miniature lens mounting thread with a nominal diameter of 12 mm and a pitch of 0.5 mm. Commonly known as S-mount or board lens mount, it is widely used in compact CCTV and embedded imaging systems.
Equipment and systems: S-mount board-camera lenses and M12x0.5 lens holders.
Examples include Lensation S-mount lenses, Commonlands M12 lenses, and Basler dart cameras equipped with an S-mount lens holder.
Compatibility and limitations: Not interchangeable with M12x0.75.
Matching threads alone do not guarantee that a lens will focus correctly or cover the camera sensor. Check the lens back focal distance, sensor format, holder depth and rear-element clearance.
S-mount does not specify a single flange focal distance.
Focus is commonly adjusted by screwing the lens into or out of its holder. Secure the final position with a suitable locking method and avoid allowing the rear of the lens to contact the sensor or protective glass.
Metric thread with a nominal diameter of 12 mm and a pitch of 0.75 mm. Used as the attachment interface on threaded versions of certain ShiftCam smartphone add-on lenses.
Equipment and systems: Documented examples include threaded versions of these ShiftCam ProLens accessories:
• 60mm Telephoto
• 18mm Wide-Angle
• 1.33x Anamorphic
These accessories mount in front of a smartphone’s existing camera lens.
Compatibility and limitations: Not interchangeable with the M12x0.5 thread used by S-mount board-camera lenses.
Compatibility depends on the exact lens version and mounting accessory. Check the thread pitch, available engagement, seating clearance and alignment with the phone’s camera.
A matching thread does not guarantee compatibility with every phone, case or camera position.
Do not confuse this threaded connection with ShiftCam’s S.Mount twist-lock bayonet. ShiftCam offers converter rings for attaching existing threaded LensUltra lenses to its S.Mount accessories; the two interfaces are distinct.
Larger board-mount lenses for industrial cameras and some CCTV applications requiring a wider barrel than M12.

Standard for 8mm and 16mm cine cameras and some early video cameras. Thread: 15.88mm x 32 TPI, flange distance 12.29mm. Used in Kodak 8mm cameras, Bolex 8mm, and some early TV lenses. Now used with adapter rings on mirrorless cameras.
Thread found on some older telescope accessories with imperial pitch.
Thread found on some telescope accessories with imperial pitch, notably some older Zeiss and Baader accessories.
Royal Microscopical Society standard — the universal microscope objective thread since the 19th century. Thread: 20.32mm x 36 TPI. Used by Olympus and Zeiss on their finite-conjugate objectives; also on many older Nikon objectives and virtually all "DIN" standard objectives from Leitz, American Optical, and others.
Standard for Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope (SCT) back-cell threads. Used on Celestron and Meade SCTs to attach visual backs, reducers, and camera adapters. Thread: 2 inch x 24 TPI.
Compatibility and limitations: The SCT2" thread is compatible with the M51x1 metric thread on short lengths.
Thorlabs SM1 thread — a common standard for laboratory and photonics optomechanics. Used extensively in Thorlabs cage systems, tube lens assemblies, and microscopy research setups. Thread: 1.035 inch x 40 TPI.

In photography, a lens adapter is a device that enables the use of camera and lens combinations from otherwise incompatible systems.
We make adapters for lenses, cameras, microscopes, telescopes, night vision devices etc.
If you cannot find a necessary adapter, please feel free to contact us, and we will check if such an adapter can be made.
Most of our adapters are machined of aviation grade aluminium alloy and anodized to satin black color.
Lens mounts are the unsung heroes of photography, connecting cameras to lenses and ensuring a seamless interaction between the two. In this article, we'll unravel the mysteries behind lens mounts by delving into five prominent types: the bayonet mount, thread mount, clamp mount, dovetail mount, and, first and foremost, understanding what a lens mount is.
What is a Lens Mount? A lens mount is a crucial interface that connects a camera body to a lens. It serves as the foundation for secure attachment, precise alignment, and (in the case of modern digital cameras) the transfer of data between the camera and lens. Essentially, it's the bridge that facilitates a seamless collaboration between your camera and lens components.
Bayonet Mount:
The bayonet mount is one of the most common types of lens mounts. Named after the bayonet-style knife, this mount uses a locking mechanism featuring tabs on the lens that engage with corresponding slots on the camera body. Bayonet mounts are known for their quick and secure attachment, making them prevalent in many camera systems.
Thread Mount:
Thread mounts, also known as screw mounts, involve a threaded ring on the lens that screws into a corresponding thread on the camera body. While not as swift as bayonet mounts, thread mounts offer simplicity and reliability. Some iconic lenses, especially from older camera systems, utilize thread mounts.
Clamp Mount:
The clamp mount is a less common but noteworthy type. It involves a clamp or bracket mechanism that secures the lens to the camera body. Clamp mounts are often seen in specialized setups where a secure grip and alignment are crucial. Nowadays, they are widely used to attach projection lenses to cameras.
Dovetail Mount:
Dovetail mounts use a dovetail-shaped groove and corresponding ridge. This design provides stability and ensures precise alignment. Dovetail mounts are commonly found in microscopes since they allow centering the optical axis.
