Russian Movie Lenses
I plan to gather all info about Russian lenses for 35mm movie cameras here.
Most common Russian cameras are Konvas and Kinor. So, I'll cover their lenses
primarily. But I have some Druzhba, Rodina, and Temp lenses too.
Russian lenses have been produced at different places. Here are some of them:
CKBK - Central Designing Bureau of Cinematography. Many prototypes
were made there. The CKB GKK / CKBK lenses were often made to very high
standards - on the other hand the lenses are about 35 years old.
Elite - modern manufacturer of high-quality lenses. But prices are
correspondingly high (from about $4,000 for a fast primes, and up to $20,000 for
a big anamorphic zoom).
Spherical Primes
OCT-18 mount (for turret Konvas)
 |
OKS1-16-1
Widest lens for turret Konvas that I had. |
 |
OKS1-18-1
F=18mm, f/2.8, T/3.4.
18mm lens wasn't included into basic Konvas-1m sets. |
 |
Simple 18mm lens
There are some lenses in simplified oct-18 mount on
market. It is due to some 18mm optical blocks left on factory, but they
too lazy to made full mount. So, it is compromise version - brand new
optics with not very convenient mount. |
 |
RO-70
F=22mm.
22mm lenses were usually included into standard outfits. |
 |
28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, and 135mm lenses
These lenses are so common that I don't see any reason to describe
them in details. They are included into almost every turret Konvas
delivery set. |
 |
OKS2-300-1
F=300mm, f/5, T/5.1
Very simple lens. I saw only one such lens. May be it was
one-of-kind. |
 |
Tair-3
F=300mm, f/4.5.
Taor-3 lens was originally made for still image cameras, AFAIK. So,
this one seems to be an adaptation. |
 |
OKS2-500-1
F=500mm, f/6.4.
Focuses from 2.5m. |
 |
OKS2-1000-1
F=1000mm, f/6.3, T/6.6.
High quality lens made at Central Design Bureau of Cinematography (CKBK) in 1967.
My lens had Arri PL mount, so I don't know what mount was installed
originally.
Weight is about 9kg.
|
OCT-19 mount (for Konvas-2M, -8M, Kinor).
Not all lenses are interchangeable between Konvas and Kinor, unfortunately. If
you can help to determine compatibility, it will be appreciated.
 |
OKS6-10-1
F=10mm, f/2.8, T/2.8. Field of view is 143 degrees.
It is widest Konvas lens that covers any 35mm format (Peleng 8mm
fisheye leaves black corners).
I heard that 9.8mm lens exists too, but I'm not sure that it is
Russian. |
 |
OKS2-16-1
F=16mm, f/2.8, T/3.3.
There are few modifications exist (with unusual focusing lever at
rear part of the mount, for example). |
 |
OKS5-18-1
F=18mm, T/2.9.
18mm lens is widest one included into standard Konvas outfit. |
 |
OKS1-18-1
Another (heavy brass) version of 18mm lens. |
| |
22mm |
| |
28mm |
| |
35mm |
 |
OKS1-40-1
F=40mm, T/2.8
Rare (and heavy) brass lens. |
| |
50mm |
 |
OKS6-75-1
F=75mm, f/2, T/2.2 |
 |
OKS1-100-1
F=100mm, f/2, T/2.3. |
| |
150mm |
 |
OKS1-200-1
F=200mm, f/2.8, T/3.2.
High-end apochromat fluorite lens.
|
 |
OKS5-250-1
F=250mm, f/2.8, T/3. Focuses from 5m.
Weight is about 2.5kg.
|
 |
OKC1-300-1
F=300mm, f/3.5, T/4.1
High quality LOMO lens. Brand new optics. Used oct-19 mount for Konvas-2M
camera. The mount allows to focus it quickly (something similar to follow
focus).
Weight is 2.3kg.
I have few 300mm optical blocks of
this type.
|
| |
500mm |
 |
OKS5-750-1
F=750mm, f/8 |
| |
1000mm |
Druzhba lenses
 |
I have 3 lenses (brass 35&40mm, and black heavy unmarked
with T/3.1, focuses from 0.5m). The are for sale now.
Add to cart for $299.00
|
Rodina Lenses
Temp Lenses
Fast Lenses
The fast lenses were supplied with Kinor cameras AFAIK
(because Kinor is better and more expensive camera). Though they can be used on
Konvas as well.
 |
EKRAN 35OKS7-18-1
F=18mm, F=18mm, f/1.4, T/1.6
Focuses from 0.25m!
Quite rare and expensive lens. I sold one with minor defect for $790.
So, mint one will cost about $1000. |
 |
CKBK 35OKS5-22-1
F=22mm, F=22mm, f/1.4, T/1.6.
CKBK also known as Ekran. It seems that CKBK was
renamed to Ekran in late of 1980's. Or Ekran divided from CKBK. I don't
know exactly. In any case, CKBK is high quality lenses too. |
 |
OKS9-28-1
F=28mm, f/1.3, T/1.5.
Modification without geared ring for follow focus. |
 |
OKS9-29-1M
F=28mm, f/1.3, T/1.5
Quite rare short modification of the 28mm
fast lens (more common version is longer and heavier one). |
 |
OKS10-28-1
F=28mm, f/1.3, T/1.5.
Most common version of 28mm fast lens. But rare now too. |
 |
Unnamed 35mm fast lens
T/1.5. |
 |
35OKS15-35-1
F=35mm, f/1.2, T/1.4.
Made at Ekran at 1991. |
 |
OKS11-50-1
F=50mm, f/?, T/1.4
Simple version without geared ring for follow focus. |
 |
OKS11-50-1M
F=50mm, f/?, T/1.4
Modification with geared ring. |
 |
OKS14-75-1
F=75mm, f/?, T/1.6
Simple version without geared ring for follow focus. |
 |
OKS14-75-1M
F=75mm, f/?, T/1.6
Modification with geared ring. |
Macro Lenses
 |
This is semi-professionally made macro lens. It is
based on 75mm lens with OCT-19 mount. Basically, it implements simple
macro technique - increasing distance between the lens and film plane.
Results are good enough - 1:1 scale!
Only my regret is that they are rare - I had only two
of them. Does anybody want such lenses? If I'll gather enough orders, I
can try to manufacture them. |
Zoom Lenses
All Russian Zoom lenses for 35mm cameras (except early ones)
have same code - 35OPF (Variable Focus Lens for 35mm camera). After this code
follows it's model.
 |
Lenar
F=40-162mm, f/3.8, T/4.9
It seems to be first zoom lens. I had one made in 1970. Focuses from
2m. |
 |
Lenar-2
F=40-160mm or 50-200mm (depends on rear interchangeable block).
f/3.8 (but starts from 4.9)
T/4.5 (but starts from 6.1).
Successor of the Lenar. But my lens was made in 1967. So, Lenar
should be even more early lens. Overall impression is that it was
experimental lens never made in quantities.
Interesting feature is light-meter port. |
 |
Foton
F=37-140mm, f/3.5, T/4.2
Relative apertures may vary a bit. Some users noticed yellow spectral
shift of this lens. So, it is cheapest but not best zoom.
It can be either in OCT-18 or OCT-19 mount. Both versions are quite
common. Front anamorphic attachment and dioptric attachments are
available for this lens. |
 |
35OPF7-1
F=25-250mm, f/3.5, T/4.3.
The lens was made at Soviet Central Design Bureau in 1970 (s/n is 700011).
Focuses from 1.6m.
Weight - about 3 kg.
It is possible to use rear anamorphic attachment with this lens. |
 |
35OPF15-1
F=25-250, f/4.5, T/6.2.
The lens was made at Soviet Central Design Bureau in 1974 (s/n is 74002).
Weight - about 4.2 kg.
It is possible to use rear anamorphic attachment with this lens.
|
 |
35OPF16-1
F=25-100mm, f/3.2, T/3.7 (probably).
t seems to be an experimental lens.
Plastic geared ring reduces noise during operation with follow focus.
It is possible to use rear anamorphic attachment with this lens.
|
 |
35OPF16E
F=25-100mm, f/3.2, T/3.7
Unique feature of this lens is electric focus control. |
 |
35OPF17-1
F=20-100mm, f/2.5, T/3.2
This lens is very similar to 35OPF18-1 except of upper focal length (100mm
instead of 120mm).
|
 |
35OPF18-1
F=20-120mm, f/2.5.
Many users think that it is best zoom lens for Konvas/Kinor.
May be it is really so. Important feature is ability to replace rear
part with tele extender or anamorphic attachment (should be supplied in
complete outfit).
Only disadvantage is big weight (about 8 kg). So, it
should be handled with care. Strong strike along its axis may cause
inner elements shift leading to costly repair. |
 |
35OPF29-1
F=23-80mm, f/3, T/3.5.
This is second candidate to be best lens for Konvas/Kinor.
The lens is small and light (about 1kg only). Multicoated glass. Original
price was $10,000 (when came from factory).
Though it has smaller focal lengths range, many users found it to be very
convenient and useful.
|
Square Front Anamorphics
Solid anamorphic lenses called BAS (Anamorphic Shooting Unit).
Front anamorphic attachments (used with turret Konvas only AFAIK) called NAS
(Anamorphic Shooting Attachment).
 |
35NAS10-3
Front anamorphic attachment with 35mm spherical lens
LOMO OKS6-35-1. The spherical lens has special design to be coupled with
this attachment, so your standard lenses fill not fit. |
 |
35NAS4-1
Front anamorphic attachment with 50mm and 75mm
spherical lenses. The spherical lenses have special design to be coupled
with this attachment, so your standard lenses fill not fit. |
 |
35BAS10-2-01
F=35 mm, f/2.5 (T/2.8).
Focuses form 1m.
Weight is 1.3kg.
OCT-19mount. |
 |
35BAS4-15-01
F=50mm, f/2, T/2.5.
Focuses from 1.5m.
Weight is 1.5kg.
OCT-19 mount.
Similar lenses available in different mounts:
35BAS4-6 (mount unknown) |
 |
35BAS4-5
F=80 mm, f/2 (T/2.5).
Focuses form 1.5 m;
Weight is 2.2 kg.
Russian version of BNCR mount. |
Round Front Anamorphics
RF anamorphics are better than square front ones. They have
more even brightness of all field of view (square front lenses may gave some
light loss at corners, AFAIK).
 |
35BAS13-1
F=300mm, f/4
Quite interesting lens. You may remove front anamorphic part to convert it
into the usual 150mm lens (though it will be focused to infinity only). |
 |
35BAS14-1
F=500mm, f/5.6
Like 35BAS13-1, it can be converted into 250mm spherical lens focused
to infinity. |
 |
35BAS22-2
F=50 mm, f/2 (T/2.5).
Focuses form 1m.
One of the most spread round front anamorphics (along with 75mm
35BAS23-2). |
 |
35BAS23-2
F=75 mm, f/2 (T/2.5).
Focuses form 1m.
One of the most spread round front anamorphics (along with 50mm
35BAS22-2). |
 |
35BAS27-1
F=35mm, f/2 (T/2.5);
Focus Range: 1 m to inf.
Quite interesting lens with big front. Though it doesn't improve it,
AFAICS. |
 |
BAS35-501 and BAS35-75-1
f/1.2 (T/1.5) and f/1.4 (T/1.7) correspondingly.
Fast anamorphic lenses. Best of what I ever had.
These lenses were made at Russian Central Design Office of Cinematography
in 1980's. |
